Take5*

Take5* is a filmed encounter between 5 artists and 2 guests who meet for the first time in a specific city to speak about Europe, festivals, the arts and their role in society

It is a curated, recorded exchange of opinions from a full-day meeting, translated by Oscar-nominated and Golden Bear-winning Film Director Stefan Arsenijevic into a 60-minute filmed report. Its purpose is to spark conversation and open up dialogue about the role of the arts in Europe and make these discussions more accessible to the broader society.

Take5* is a series that travels to different cities and contexts depending on where it is staged.
The initiative was first piloted in Moscow during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. The first full edition was shot in Brussels at the Arts and History Museum located at the Parc du Cinquantenaire/Jubelpark. It is primarily aimed at festival audiences, the cultural community and producers, academics, policymakers and the media.

TAKE 5* Brussels

Five international artists, together with two guests, revisit the concept of civilisation and rediscover Europe while trying to answer questions they ask themselves about the place of arts and culture in Europe. The Arts and History Museum at Cinquantenaire served both as the setting and the trigger for the staged encounter between the protagonists. Their voices, opinions, point of views were combined and shaped into a one-hour documentary structured in six chapters reflecting six topics, all linked to those large questions:

Can the arts change the world? Does the world need the arts? What are the limits of what the arts can do?

Take5* Brussels was produced in co-operation with RITCS.

“Take 5 is a tune by David Brubeck. It also suggests to take some time off, take a break. Our Take5* is inspired by this tune title.”
