Nora Mahammed

Director of TheaterFestival Vlaanderen

Festivals are unique ecosystems, often in contact with numerous artists and cultural workers, cultural institutions both nationally and internationally. As such, they keep a keen finger on the pulse of needs, challenges, what is happening, and what could be improved. Thanks to their flexible structure, where they start anew each year, they are the ideal place to experiment with pressing issues and implement change in practice. Let’s seize this opportunity to fully embrace our pioneering role for the entire arts landscape!

Nora Mahammed (Brussels, 1994) is the director of TheaterFestival Vlaanderen and a guest lecturer in cultural policy at Erasmushogeschool Brussels for the Social Cultural Work program. She is an alumna of the Social Cultural Work program at Erasmushogeschool and holds a Master's degree in Cultural Agogics from the VUB.

She has worked as programme coordinator & coordinator of the Knowledge Hub at the Flemish-Dutch house deBuren, and at Globe Aroma, where she developed participatory programming practices with the Art For All group. In the field of socio-artistic work, she co-coordinated the Beauty Verhalen Salon (FEMALE ECONOMY & Kaaitheater) & MUSLIM/HIPSTER (doyougetme.world). Nora is actively involved as the chair of the Culture Council of the Flemish Community Commission and as a board member of Kunstenfestivaldesarts and the emerging MINT vzw. She sits on the 'Literary Projects and Organizations' committee of Literature Flanders and freelances as a member of several juries, both artistic and recruitment-focused. Her previous board engagements include Kunstenpunt, Pilar, Globe Aroma, and RITCS.
