7th Edition of the Music International Symposium in Varna
The 7th Edition of the International Symposium - dedicated to the traditions and current tendencies in classical music of the Mediterranean region - will take place from 2 to 4 September 2025, hosted by the City Art Gallery - Varna, as part of the Varna Summer International Music Festival.
Since its establishment in 2019, the International Academic Symposium has been organised annually, with the main objectives of fostering scholarly discussions on phenomena in different musical cultures within the realm of classical music, as well as introducing audiences to an engaging repertoire related to the symposium’s yearly theme. The symposium is characterised by its well-balanced program of lectures, academic discussions and musical illustrations aimed at presenting the work of the discussed composers to the audience.
The theoretical forum will feature contributions from distinguished scholars such as Prof. Dr. Hartmut Krones (Austria), Prof. Alessandro Solbiati (Italy), Prof. Dr. Christian Glanz (Austria), Prof. Dr. Lucie Kayas (France), Prof. Dr. Ivanka Stoianova (France), Dr. Petya Tsvetanova (Bulgaria). The symposium will be moderated by Prof. Dr. Hartmut Krones (University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna), supported by Dr. Petya Tsvetanova (National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov,” Sofia), who will provide an interlinguistic perspective.
The programme also includes three evening concerts, featuring chamber works written by composers from Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria. Performances will be given by ensembles with leading musicians from across Europe, offering a truly multi-perspective reflection on the symposium’s theme. This year’s edition is titled Music of the Mediterranean Countries.
Attendance is free of charge, and all guests will receive copies of the academic papers.
