The Piccolo Opera Festival (POF) is more than just a musical event: it's an invitation to experience Opera in a new, free, and surprising way. Since 2007, it has promoted Opera and vocal music as a living, contemporary experience, emphasizing the fusion of sound, word, and gesture. The Festival's distinctive goal is to bring Opera beyond its traditional contexts, engaging with the most evocative locations in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region (Italy) and neighboring Slovenia, for a diverse and international audience.
Since 2022, its setting has been the “Teatro di Verzura” of Spessa Castle, an open-air arena "made of nature," with steps carved out of the hillside and a centuries-old oak tree as a backdrop, which has become a symbol of sustainability and resilience.
The Festival's hallmark is its offering of new Opera productions, including those based on specific artistic commissions, which leverage excellent national and international collaborations, often involving young artists supported by experienced orchestras and conductors, with a view to shared growth.
