The Khachaturian International Festival is one of the few widely celebrated classical music events in the region, with its recognition extending beyond the country.
It was established in Armenia in 2013 by Maestro Sergey Smbatyan, the principal conductor and artistic director of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and hosts in the capital city of Yerevan prominent classical artists each fall or winter, to co-create an environment that inspires cross-cultural relations in the name of a meaningful dialogue between peoples around the world.
The Khachaturian International Festival takes its name after one of the most celebrated Armenian composers Aram Khachaturian. Each year, the programme of the festival features the works of Khachaturian and his contemporaries, as well as a concert with jazz arrangements of Aram Khachaturian’s compositions.
Krzysztof Penderecki, Alexander Romanovsky, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Ning Feng, Zakhar Bron, Maxim Vengerov and many others have been among the brightest stars that have performed during the annual festival days.
Aside from the key mission of raising the renown of Aram Khachaturian and his musical legacy, this festival pursues to bring together different traditions of performing schools in the festive ambience of this annual event.
