Chapter 8: The Domains of Care
The preceding chapters have developed a connected way of seeing care across different scales. The reader has already followed the movement from human conditions and relationships towards organisational practice, belonging and community. This chapter does not introduce another layer of theory or repeat that movement as a list. It brings the earlier ideas together so that their relationships can be seen within a single framework.
The five domains—relational, organisational, supportive, spatial and cultural care—are not five separate kinds of care. They are fields in which the same orientation becomes visible. The framework allows the reader to move between a relationship involving two parties and the wider festival ecosystem, while asking how the conditions of personal, relational-collective and organisational wellbeing—and the material and ecological conditions upon which they depend—are created, protected and, when damaged, repaired. Each domain also leaves questions that become fully visible only when care is examined together with power.
